More than a week after former model Twisha Sharma was found dead at her in-laws’ house in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal, the 31-year-old’s mortal remains continue to remain at AIIMS Bhopal as her family has refused to perform the last rites. Citing major lapses in the port-mortem, they have demanded an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the matter.
The police has claimed to have intensified probe into the alleged suicide and are looking out for her absconding husband Samarth Singh. Meanwhile, family members from both sides have levelled serious allegations and counter-allegations against each other, IANS reported.

Navnidhi Sharma, Twisha’s father, has claimed that Samarth’s family is influential and capable of exerting pressure on the system. He further asserted that his grieving family was being subjected to “continuous public attacks and narratives”.
In his detailed statement on Tuesday, May 19, Navnidhi said his family had repeatedly expressed apprehensions before authorities regarding the influence allegedly wielded by persons connected with Twisha’s mother-in-law and retired judge Giribala Singh’s family.
“From the very first day, our family has consistently expressed apprehension before authorities that the accused persons connected with the Giribala Singh’s family are highly influential and capable of exerting pressure upon the system, public opinion, and investigation machinery,” IANS quoted Navnidhi as saying.
After the post-mortem, Twisha’s family has sought an investigation by an independent agency from outside Madhya Pradesh along with a second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi. This is the reason why they not accepted the body and performed the last rites even eight days after Twisha’s death.
Meanwhile, Giribala Singh has levelled fresh allegations against her deceased daughter-in-law. She claimed that Twisha’s post-mortem report was prepared solely to create sensationalism.
“Twisha was nice to me on my face, but would instantly deny doing basic household chores,” Giribala said, while questioning Twisha’s lifestyle and freedom of movement.
She has claimed that Twisha allegedly used to got out on frequent basis without informing the family where she was headed.
“Twisha was outgoing and would not tell us where she was going,” Giribala said.
Notably, Giribala’s advocate had earlier told the district court that they have no objection to a second post-mortem or an investigation by any agency.
Twisha was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. This happened about five months after she got married to advocate Samarth Singh. Since then, her husband has been absconding, while the Bhopal Police has issued a lookout notice against him and initiated proceedings to get his passport revoked.
